Precisando dessa necessidade de mercado surgiram pessoas que montaram negócios alugar de fitas. As fitas Beta Max não renderam, então praticamente todo o mercado passou a vender fitas VHS. As primeiras fitas eram piratas. Depois de um tempo houve a legalização. Então as fitas de vídeo vinham com um selo que mostrava que era legal. Com o surgimento do DVD as video locadoras passaram rapidamente alugar DVDs ao invés de fitas VHS. Sua qualidade era superior a sua posterior, a VHS, só que o tamanho da fita era menor. Com isso, nos anos 80, a &lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;VHS&lt;/span&gt;(img.3) passou a ser usada. Ela era destacada pela facilidade de operação, comparada às anteriores.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Nos anos 90, veio o &lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;DVD&lt;/span&gt;(img.2), que usava tecnologia digital. O DVD trazia várias inovações como poder escolher no 'menu', a cena, a linguagem ou legenda. Em 2008 foi lançado o disco &lt;span style="font-weight:bold;"&gt;Blu-ray&lt;/span&gt;(img.1), que tem um formato igual ao DVD, só que tem alta definição.
